About Wal and his Jabiru
About us:
Both my wife, Lynne and I have enjoyed many enjoyable trips around our great country, but want to do much more.
I started to fly in 1987 and learned to fly as a Scout Leader at the Scout Air Activities Base at Camden.
I now have 600 hours experience in single engine aircraft mostly in C172 and Warrior.
We bought our Warrior (TMM) in 1999.
I achieved private IFR in 2001.
We sold our beloved TMM last October 2005 due to the ever increasing cost of maintaining and running a G.A. aircraft, and bought a Jabiru J230 kit.
We decided on the Jabiru after much consideration and investigation into every aircraft that we could find. If interested a spreadsheet of the comparison aircraft can be accessed on the website. Our criteria for an aircraft was that it had to be equal or better than the Warrior in the major areas of size, performance and safety, and much better in costs.
We live on a fine wool property near Armidale NSW. We have two strips on the place, a 900 metre two way strip about 4 Km from our house and a short 600 metre one way up hill strip at the house. The altitude is 3300’. With the Warrior we had to be ever conscious of density altitude.
We have had some great trips in the Warrior, but want to do much more flying in the future while we are able.
I did my Ultralight Licence conversion at Orange last year.
Although we are going to register the J230 as VH Experimental at the beginning we will be able convert it to Ultralight at a later date if Medical conditions dictate.
I have created this website to make contact with other builders for information, problem solving, and mutual interest, and as a log of work completed.
Here is some images of our Warrior at full power down our runway at home.
